What was the last working kernel version?
3.7.10-r1
Of the Gentoo sources, not vanilla.
What wifi card do you have in there? Is it a Broadcom BCM4328? Can you tell me which card or attach the output of lspci -vv
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n This is what the 3.7.10-r1 kernel tells me.
Wireless still does not work under the 3.9 gentoo sources. I've even tried reinstalling the firmware for the device.
1) Are you certain that switching back to that kernel makes it work again? Nothing else hardware (some switch to turn on/off WiFi) or software based going on (ifplugd)? 2) There was a "b43: Fix firmware loading when driver is built into the kernel" commit on 20 December. Is this compiled as a module or in the kernel for you? Could you try to build it as a module instead? 3) If neither of the above suggestions fixes this: Can you please report this upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org and leave us a link to the upstream bug? 4) If upstream doesn't pay attention, you may need to do a git bisect to figure out the offending commit. Read http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Kernel_git-bisect on how to do it. Do this between the last known good kernel version and the first bad kernel version version.

I'm currently using 3.7.10-gentoo-r1 to post this. So yes, switching back to the previous kernel makes it work. I always build my network drivers as modules so that isn't the issue. I don't have any hardware or software switches either. I have posted a bug report with kernel.org on May 5th. Here's the link: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57581 I'll also post the .config files from the working kernel version and 3.9.1-r1.
