Description Hans-Christian Armingeon 2004-03-31 05:28:23 UTC
Hi,

My logs are flooded with such messages:

Mar 31 15:22:19 mail imapd-ssl: Failed to create cache file: maildirwatch (<username>)
Mar 31 15:22:19 mail imapd-ssl: Error: Input/output error
Mar 31 15:22:19 mail imapd-ssl: Check for proper operation and configuration
Mar 31 15:22:19 mail imapd-ssl: of the File Access Monitor daemon (famd).

I reemerged fam and courier-imap, but it didn't help.

Johnny

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge cyrus-imap
2.start cyrus-imap-ssl
3.login via imap

Actual Results:

did you start /etc/init.d/famd ?

your reproduce instructions list cyrus-imap, is this in error or did you mean this entire problem is about cyrus (and not courier-imap)

Q: Repeated messages in syslog: "Failed to create cache file: maildirwatch (user) Error: Input/output error Check for proper operation and configuration of the File Access Monitor daemon (famd)." How can I solve it?

A:This means that Courier was compiled with File Alteration Monitor (FAM), but FAM is not running, or is not configured. If you have FAM installed you can add it to a runlevel and start it. Some FAM configuration use portmapper, so you will need to have portmap running also. You can also see "man 8 imapd" for more information.

Oh no,

I forgot this.

I'm closing this issue,

Johnny

PS: Sorry, I meant courier-imap, I am always mixi ng it with cyrus-imap

i've modified the init scripts to start famd if it is present at start time.
