Description Greg 2004-03-26 01:54:30 UTC
Hi, I have been using the BMG ebuilds for gnome 2.5/2.6 with no probs for some time now. The last week or so, I have had to edit the package.mask file, as the ebuilds made their way into portage. Yesterday, I did an emerge -UD world, and all seemed good, until the behaviour of maximising windows on my dual display changed on the next re-boot. Instead of maximising to the size of one screen, it would stretch the window across the two monitors. Not exactly ideal. Spent some time downgrading packages which had been emerged on the last U world, and can say it is definately metacity-2.8.0 which is causing this. The BMG build 2.7.0 works fine, and I can re-produce this fault. All other packages are at their most recent version again, except metacity. I had also checked in other wm to see if the problem existed there, and there was no problem in KDE, so it is purely gnome related.

Anything you need me to help with to problem solve this I am happy to assist.

I don't know BMG ebuilds, i don't want to. version 2.7.0 != 2.8.0 so that sais like totally nothing. If you use BMG : warranty void, it's that easy. No soup for you.

Ok for this one time... could you maybe post your 'emerge info' (*sigh* this _always_ be provided, then why do i _always_ have to ask for it).
Comment 2 Greg 2004-03-26 16:16:19 UTC
The metacity 2.8 ebuild is not BMG though, I don't think. I might be wrong, and if so sorry, I will report it to BMG, but it shows up in the /usr/portage/x11-wm/metacity directory, not the BMG overlay I have set, which is /usr/local/portage/x11-wm/metacity. The 2.7 version is the BMG one, which is working.

Here is my emerge info:

I suppose i wasn't clear enough in my initial comment, using BMG ebuilds results in losing our support. It doesn't matter to me if you don't actually use them at this point, they were on your system : No more support. That's why i'm closing this as INVALID now.

Ok back to the bug, a last hint :this is probably some sort xinerama behaviour. Try building with -xinerama .

Yeah, thanks, but I had already tried that, with no success. OH well, I am sure that when more people start using 2.6, this bug will come out of the woodworks.

thanks Greg

I've just installed gnome-2.6_rc5 and I have found this bug too. Metacity is at version : 2.8.0
