Description Mark R. Pariente 2013-02-09 06:25:52 UTC
Since upgrading to curl-7.29.0 trying to start VMware Workstation results in UI crash. Looking at /tmp/vmware-<user>/vmware-ui-<PID>.log I noticed the backtrace contained some curl symbols. I noticed I recently upgraded curl to 7.29.0, so I downgraded curl to 7.28.1 and this fixed the vmware workstation UI crash.

Reproducible: Always

Could you post the relevant parts of that wmware-ui log, please?

There's a workaround at https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33779?project=1

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libcurl.so.4
Comment 5 László Szalma 2013-02-11 16:31:41 UTC
I cannot apply the arch patch, I couldn't find that shell script. Anyway, starting vmware works using this:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/vmware/lib/vmware/lib/libcurl.so.4 vmware

I hope it helps someone until it's fixed.

Comment 7 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-12 10:39:21 UTC
This appears to be a curl bug, rather than a vmware bug. Marking as a duplicate of bug 456842.
