Comment 1 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2017-12-02 15:44:31 UTC
So this is broken for a long time and no one seems to fix it. Treecleaners?

The only revdep is: media-tv/mythtv[dvb] (also no maintainer)
Comment 2 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2017-12-28 11:36:26 UTC
It seems also Debian removed it long time ago:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=761390

The same on Arch
Comment 3 Aidan Thornton 2017-12-31 16:23:23 UTC
The media-tv/mythtv[dvb] dependency is bogus - mythtv doesn't actually use it and probably hasn't for quite a long time given that libdvb is unmaintained and I don't think it supports newer DVB standards. (In fact, the version of mythtv in Portage doesn't seem to require any extra external dependencies for DVB support other than the appropriate kernel headers.) The whole library could've been completely broken for ages and no-one would even have noticed.
Comment 4 Joel Snape 2018-01-02 22:18:08 UTC
I agree that libdvb is probably not needed for mythtv but the dvb use flag isn't bogus, on my system it works fine and changing the ebuild with 'myconf="${myconf} --disable-dvb"' breaks digital TV on mythtv.
Just deleting 'media-libs/libdvb' from the dependencies is enough to remove the unwanted package without removing functionalities on my system (PCTV Hybrid pro PCI with DVB-T on the saa7134_dvb driver).

I can add that libdvb package installed some executables but I assume all can be replaced by ffmpeg calls or similar tools.
