Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2012-12-31 14:11:01 UTC
It has multiple opened bugs:
bug 153921 -> looks like it's pending a revert from 2007 that never was done
bug 93843 -> No patch to full fix the issue, also looks like plain rpm is still better
bug 351554

This package really needs a dedicated maintainer, otherwise I doubt that issues (and any more that could appear) will be handled and, still, looks like using rpm directly is still preferred

Reproducible: Always

> looks like using rpm directly is still preferred

I don't understand this comment. I emerged rpm but that doesn't know anything about my installed packages, probably because all of them were installed through portage and none through rpm. So what use would rpm be on a Gentoo system?

For building rpm-based distro's chroots. Anyway this package should be treecleaned, unless all related non-feature request bugs will be fixed.
Comment 3 Peter Weilbacher 2013-01-18 16:50:36 UTC
OK, so rpm cannot be "used directly" for the same purpose as epm, and that part of comment 0 was irrelevant.

But sure, as I like using epm I will look at the existing epm bugs and see what I can do.

If you are serious about updating and maintaining epm, I will act as a proxy for you. I have gone ahead and cloned the Gentoo epm CVS source repository to github at https://github.com/fuzzyray/epm and committed the patch in epm-1.33-r1. I did not apply the prefix patch since this being a Gentoo tool, prefix support should probably just be built in to the code.
Comment 5 Stefan Briesenick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-01-21 15:21:08 UTC
yes, PLEASE fix it. I *love* that little tool. ;-)

in the meanwhile, I copied the current version into my local overlay.
Comment 6 Peter Weilbacher 2013-01-23 14:28:25 UTC
Paul, thanks! I cloned your repo and applied the patches needed to fix the bugs, and pushed everything to https://github.com/p2w/epm. I also attached them to the open epm-related bugs.

I think with those patches, I basically fulfilled the request in comment 2:
- I consider bug 93843 and bug 153921 fixed.
- bug 73494 is a wishlist item that I would resolve wontfix if I could.
- bug 168283 is a real bug but not one of major importance.
Comment 7 Paul Varner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-01-31 23:45:02 UTC
Peter, I've pulled in your changes and testing. Within the next couple of days, I'll work on making a release and updating the metadata to reflect actual maintainership of the package.

Once that happens, we should be able to close this bug and the relevant bugs as well.

Additionally, I have given you write access to the fuzzyray/epm repository on github.
Comment 8 Paul Varner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-01 21:03:22 UTC
I have added app-portage/epm-1.40 to the tree to add the fixes from Peter and to change the metadata to reflect Peter as the maintainer.

I will be reassigning the remaining bugs, removing the package mask and closing this bug shortly.
Comment 9 Paul Varner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-01 21:20:25 UTC
Package mask removed, closing this bug.
Comment 10 Sergey Popov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-03 08:33:27 UTC
For 'remove' bug WONTFIX if you did not remove package is a more correct resolution ;-)
