gst-plugins-gio is needed to edit the metadata of music files, without this package rhythmbox is not able to communicate with the needed gst-plugin. Thats ture for rhythmbox-0.12.8 and rhythmbox-2.97, 2.97 prints a correct missing plugin error if you specify "--gst-debug-level=3 --debug" 0.12.8 not.
