Description eipi 2012-12-08 23:33:51 UTC
My Mediatomb config file has not changed for a while. I am using a transcode-all config file based on the one published here :

http://mediatomb.cc/dokuwiki/transcoding:transcoding

However, since mediatomb-0.12 at least, I noticed that after each movie watched 2 mencoder processes are launched on 2 different FIFOs. One of them transmit the actual transcoded video to the renderer (a PS3), but the other remains kernel-blocked, writing into a pipe for which no one is actually reading to (only a kill -KILL can kill it). Some traces are in attachment. As shown, two pipes are created for two processes, however only one process is killed...

I downloaded static binary version: mediatomb-static-0.11.0-r2-linux-uclibc-i386.tar.gz from the upstream web site. And this problem does not happened with this version.

I tried to debug (using ddd/gdb). However the multi-threading make the task too cumbersome for me. If you have any idea how I can help, please tell me so.

Regards.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge mediatomb-0.12.1-r1
2.use a transcode-all config file such as the one provided at http://mediatomb.cc/dokuwiki/transcoding:transcoding
3.Launch /etc/init.d/mediatomb start
4.Watch a media file (so transcoding happen)

Actual Results:
4.ps aux|grep mencoder should list 2 mencoder processes
5.Stop watching the media file
6.ps aux|grep mencoder should list 1 mencoder process, you need a kill -KILL ta actually kill it (kernel blocked, writing to a FIFO with no reader).

Expected Results:
ps aux|grep mencoder should only list 1 mencoder process
The said process should be killed after watching the media file so no mencoder remains at the end.

I don't use the transcoding functionality, so I'm not going to be able to help here.

Have you tried raising the issue upstream?

Is this still an issue with the latest version?
