If I understand correctly, this preserves some specific xattrs? Why not simply preserve all xattrs?

With Python >=3.3, it is possible to preserve extended attributes without sys-apps/attr. (dev-python/pyxattr depends on sys-apps/attr.)

prepstrip can call Python to get extended attributes and store a dictionary of them in a pickle. After stripping, prepstrip would call Python to load pickle and set extended attributes.

Alternative suggestion: Rewrite prepstip in Python :) .

This is fixed in 2.1.11.37 and 2.2.0_alpha148.
