I think gentoo should care more about wine setup. I have * app-emulation/wine Latest version available: 20040121 Latest version installed: 20040121 and I I found out I have to install some packages manually. One of the is dcom95.exe (which refuses to install right now, but google has plenty of these hists), then there are these two files to be downloaded from sourceforge.net site: wine_programs_for_windows.zip, wine_programs_for_windows_build002.zip. I already went to complain to the wine developers, as I've no clue where to insatall them. I believe you might get interrested in installing these two files as well. Last, install the wine-tools package once available. It seems it install never version of the dcom98 stuff, which seems to be required by windows installers. http://franksworld.net/winetools.html Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Something possibly usefull: http://franksworld.net/wine_scripts.html . I couldn't install the dcom95, but dcom98 installed fine over into my wine version. I propose to download and execute the install-dcom98.sh script for any wine user on gentoo, same for the install-fonts.sh and install-viewer.sh.
