Disclaimer: this bug has been filed in a semi-automated manner.

When emerging the package gnome-base/gnome-menus-2.30.5, the following elog messages are displayed:

 * If you use startx and have no .xinitrc, just export XSESSION=Gnome.
 * If you use startx and have .xinitrc, export XDG_MENU_PREFIX=gnome-.

Such messages should only be displayed when the package is a new install.
These situations can be checked in the ebuild as follows:

if ! has_version 'gnome-base/gnome-menus'; then

See the tracker bug 440214 for more details.

This should probably have been a news item back in the days but it did not exist iirc. It should now problably be moved to documentation/wiki.

Before moving it to documentation, I think we (gnome team) need to centralize a bit that docs because there are a lot of useful information spread in upgrade guides, that info was added there but is also useful for new people directly installing new versions

Personally I would like to move to wiki if possible because I really hate guidexml :S
