emerge --info net-analyzer/net-snmp
On ia64 snmpd from net-analyzer/net-snmp-5.7.2_rc1 creates many of the following messages in the kernel log:
snmpd(4315): floating-point assist fault at ip 20000595aab3efe2, isr 0000040000000008
Lovely, can you get a clean backtrace please? I'm honestly not sure what the heck it's doing.

How do I create one? Can I make the kernel make the program dump core instead of doing the floating-point assist?
I have no idea, never been even _near_ an IA64.

reading the ia64 traps code, i don't think so. look at the faulting ip and find out where in the snmpd binary that is originating. you might have to look at /proc/<snmpd pid>/maps to turn the absolute IP into an offset into the code.
My Itanium machines began to show hardware failures a while ago. I don't use them anymore.
