Hi,

with portage 2.0.8 i tried to emerge rsync and it failed to update portage
because /var/tmp was deleted accidently. A simple mkdir /var/tmp fixed the
emerge problem. Perhaps an idea to create /var/tmp when it's missing for an
emerge rsync?

Portage 2.0.12 will print a polite error message for this condition and error
out gracefully.
