Description Michael Mair-Keimberger (iamnr3) 2012-09-17 08:58:19 UTC
Yesterday i've upgraded my laptop. Now i cannon connect to my vpn anymore. It always crashes with this error in dmesg:

nm-openvpn-serv[2479]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f2b89cdfb21 sp 00007fff73ee5588 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[7f2b89c5e000+19d000]

I've tested both version in portage, 0.9.4.0 and 0.9.6.0. Both of them crash. Before the update i had net-misc/networkmanager-openvpn-0.8.2-r1 installed which worked.

Comment 2 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-26 23:10:35 UTC
Is this error still present with networkmanager-0.9.6.4?

If yes, then please report it upstream to networkmanager-openvpn authors:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=NetworkManager&component=VPN%3A%20openvpn
and then give the bug URL here so that gentoo developers can keep track of it.
Comment 3 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-26 23:14:16 UTC
Note that diagnosing a segfault is nearly impossible unless you provide a backtrace with debugging symbols.

To do so, re-emerge networkmanager and networkmanager-openvpn with -ggdb in CFLAGS and splitdebug in FEATURES (see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml for more details), install app-admin/abrt, and start the abrt service (/etc/init.d/abrt start). You will be able to obtain the backtrace after the crash using abrt-gui.
Comment 4 Michael Mair-Keimberger (iamnr3) 2013-02-14 08:18:46 UTC
I still have this problem, even with the latest version in portage.
I took some time, but i made an upstream bug-report now :) (with backtrace)

Comment 5 Michael Mair-Keimberger (iamnr3) 2013-02-15 13:53:19 UTC
Problem solved. Seems like the problem belongs to gnutls. Openvpn works again with latest unstable gnutls-3.1.8. See upstream bug for more information.
