Hi Robert, thanks a lot for reporting.

This is closely related but not identical to bug 289757. As we can learn from that bug, enabling _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 causes openssh to fail.

The story continues, from ChangeLog of openssh,

> 20111121
> - (dtucker) [configure.ac] Set _FORTIFY_SOURCE. ok djm@

This option is tested and set by configure.ac, as in the build log

> checking if x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc supports -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2... yes

the macro, OSSH_CHECK_CFLAG_COMPILE([-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2]) has done a bad job detecting the lack of this feature for the gcc/glibc combo.

So, either we patch to remove -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 from CFLAGS, or we patch to make a better OSSH_CHECK_CFLAG_COMPILE macro.

I'm getting this error during the bootstrap process.. Is this related or some ohter bug?

> this is RHEL5?

I also get multiple definition bugs during bootstrapping on a stock Scientific Linux 5.8 (which is based on RHEL5.8) install + dev tools, in a standard VirtualBox VM. (I can attach the full build log as well if it'd help.)

My emergeinfo:

Er, sorry, I meant *these* multiple definition bugs, including getdomainname. During compilation of the same version of OpenSSH, as you can no doubt tell from the emerge info but which I should have made more clear.

Still occuring? If not, then this is a dup of #473524.
