If a user wants to install a package from a specific slot, she can use the syntax "emerge pkg:slot". Unfortunately, this information is not explicitly provided in man 1 emerge, nor is it in the handbook. It is explained in man 5 ebuild, but that is aimed mainly at developers, and I missed the reference to man 5 ebuild because I was searching for the term "slot". Since this is information we can expect users to need often, it would be sensible to have it in the man page for emerge. Reproducible: Always
Yes, it would be good to mention it there. Note emerge also records slot atoms in world automatically if you give it an atom that only matches a specific slot, such as '=dev-java/icedtea-6*'.
