Is there a better way already in gentoo?

Don't know but I think so. It is the e1000e board that steals the packages.
Can you check which kernel versions are you able to reproduce this on? It would benefit us to check whether this still occurs on the latest stable kernel (currently 3.4.9). Much more important is to check if it still happens on the latest test kernel (currently 3.6.1) if the former doesn't fix it. You can allow emerge to select the latest test kernel by executing: `echo sys-kernel/gentoo-sources >> /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords` The reason to try the most recent development / test kernel is to confirm whether or not this has already fixed or whether this is still present, such that we can draw a conclusion about the bug's state and act based upon that conclusion. Even though you might think this could be caused by the board it would be nice to investigate whether it can be influenced through the kernel, which is why this could be considered as a kernel problem.
See my previous comment, current stable is gentoo-sources-3.6.11. Might be interesting to test git-sources-3.8_rc3 as well...
