Comment 2 Richard Grenville 2012-03-20 13:00:11 UTC
Are you using very aggressive versions of ffmpeg/libav like 9999? FF_{I,P,B}_TYPE is marked deprecated in =ffmpeg-0.10* and removed in ffmpeg-9999. It should be possible to write a patch to replace these deprecated symbols with new ones, but I guess installing a stable ffmpeg version is easier.
Comment 3 Eugene Shalygin 2012-03-20 13:04:24 UTC
(In reply to comment #2)
I'm using unstable (~) version of all packages. In particular, ffmpeg 0.10.2

vlc-2.0.1-switcher-fix-deprecated.patch

Yes, vlc-2.0.1[switcher] does fail to compile. I wrote a patch, but my computer is slow and I did not finish compiling vlc yet. I will report the result soon.
Comment 5 Richard Grenville 2012-03-20 15:12:12 UTC
Okay, vlc-2.0.1[switcher] compiles fine with the patch on my box, but I don't know if it works fine.
Comment 6 Eugene Shalygin 2012-03-20 16:02:17 UTC
Thank you for the patch!
Comment 7 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2012-03-20 17:28:21 UTC
could you please send the patch upstream as described in:
http://wiki.videolan.org/Git#Submitting_patches_to_the_vlc-devel_or_x264-devel

thanks!

0001-switcher-Fix-compilation-with-ffmpeg-0.10.2.patch

Patch slightly modified, removed another deprecated function call.

Sent upstream: http://mailman.videolan.org/pipermail/vlc-devel/2012-March/087775.html

Comment 9 Richard Grenville 2012-03-21 06:01:25 UTC
1. All the patches I attached so far could break compatibility with older ffmpeg versions.

2. The problem looks much more complicated than what I initially thought. I guess it's better to wait for upstream to come with a clean solution:

imported upstream patch (based on yours) in our patchset for 2.0.1, thanks a lot !
