Description Hans Nieser 2012-03-04 09:25:01 UTC
Since upgrading to rhythmbox 2.95 a while ago, I frequently get a segfault when trying to play a song or internet radio stream. Almost always, after having rhythmbox segfault a couple times it will suddenly stop segfaulting and I can play different songs or radio streams for hours on end. Usually the exact sequence of actions before a segfault involves double-clicking an item in the browser, after which nothing happens. Then, clicking the same item again will make rhythmbox immediately segfault. This always happens exactly like this for 2 or 3 times when I re-launch rhythmbox, and then suddenly it'll stop segfaulting and just play my songs and streams normally.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch rhythmbox after it has been shut down for some unknown amount of time
2. Attempt to play a song or internet radio stream by double-clicking an item in the browser or in one of the playlists or under the 'radio' list.
3. Observe nothing happening
4. Click on the same item again
Actual Results:
Rhythmbox may or may not segfault at this point, if it does, start it up again and try again, and again, until it doesn't segfault, and from that point on it will work correctly and I can play any song or stream.

patch to prevent segfault

I'm using this patch as a workaround (I have no idea what mp->priv->audio_sink really is or how bad it is that it is NULL, so not sure if this really solves the whole problem). I still sometimes need to click a stream/song twice before it actually starts playing, but at least it doesn't segfault anymore it seems

Still valid with 2.96? In that case please report this to upstream -> bugzilla.gnome.org
Comment 4 Hans Nieser 2012-04-03 09:39:21 UTC
Bug still exists in 2.96, so I reported upstream at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=673415

Have you tested 2.97?

Sorry for the (very) late response, I've been running 2.97 for a while now and I haven't run into this problem for a long time, I think it's been fixed - I don't have to use the workaround patch anymore.
