net-mail/notmuch-0.11.1-r2.ebuild with nmbug and notmuch-delivery IUSEs

notmuch-deliver IUSE makes this ebuild to pull mail-filter/notmuch-deliver dependency
Comment 3 Sergei Shilovsky 2012-02-22 06:48:40 UTC
A couple of issues:
1) tar xzf is used in notmuch-deliver directly instead of unpack
2) documentation files are placed twice under /usr/share/doc/notmuch-deliver and /usr/share/doc/notmuch-deliver-0.11.1
Comment 4 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-02-22 09:08:44 UTC
Thanks! I will just tar notmuch-deliver and host on my own on d.g.o and version it with date just like snapshots. It will solve these issues.
Comment 5 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-02-22 09:16:04 UTC
I've cleaned CC list. You don't need to be CC-ed if you're a bug reporter, afaik.
Comment 6 Sergei Shilovsky 2012-02-22 09:58:59 UTC
Thanks for your explanation.

Although I think that necessarity of repacking notmuch-deliver on each new version release is not better than having those two features unresolved.

Plus, this will lead to duplicating sources to download as notmuch-deliver source stays in notmuch tarball. Either notmuch should be repacked too.

Anyway, I think there should be more convenient solution, though I don't know ebulds system well.
Comment 7 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-02-22 10:23:19 UTC
notmuch-deliver hasn't been modified in almost 3 months. I'll repack notmuch-deliver only if it will change, which will not happen often, I think. nmbug is maintained by one of main notmuch developer and used probably by all contributors, therefore I can be sure that is always up to date. notmuch-deliver doesn't seem to have so much care. Therefore I'd like to have notmuch-deliver as a separate package, if at all. I'll contact author about status of this project first. Btw, are you using notmuch-deliver intensively? Newest notmuch version has support for hooks and with afew it might take out a bit of fame from notmuch-deliver.
Comment 8 Sergei Shilovsky 2012-02-22 11:38:42 UTC
Well, I just started to use it for delivering locally generated mail to my maildir directly and tagging it properly at once.

And I was going to switch getmail rcfiles to use it instead of storing mails to maildir and calling 'notmuch new'.

notmuch-deliver seems to be more clear way to do these than anything else.

Also, I didn't tried afew yet. As I got it, afew is more a tool for preparing messages to be used by mail client than a delivery or filter tool.

I liked pop3/mda/maildir chain and I'm trying to keep with it in notmuch circumstances.
Comment 9 Sergei Shilovsky 2012-02-22 11:44:14 UTC
Well, afew is rather a filter tool than not.
But not a delivery tool.

If I gonna use filtering to mark locally generated mail, I'll have to mark them with Subject or From or smth else BEFORE storing in maildir. I think that tagging is a thing invented for replacing this workaround as well as just sorting emails already stored. Otherwise maildrop could be a good solution.

mail-filter/notmuch-deliver-0.11.1.ebuild

No direct 'tar xzf' usage any more.
Comment 11 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-20 13:43:16 UTC
Current developer of notmuch-deliver isn't responsive. Unless anyone will take over the project, there's no sense to put it into portage tree.
Comment 12 Amadeusz Żołnowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-20 13:44:26 UTC
Please reopen when anything will move on. I'll be happy to maintain ebuild if project is resurrected.
