I'm not sure is this a bug or intentional behavior. Archive genqmail-20080406.tar.bz2 (used while installing netqmail) contain default config files for /var/qmail/control/conf-*. Here is how they define TCPSERVER_OPTS: /var/qmail/control/conf-common:TCPSERVER_OPTS="-p -v" /var/qmail/control/conf-qmtpd:TCPSERVER_OPTS="${TCPSERVER_OPTS} -R" /var/qmail/control/conf-smtpd:TCPSERVER_OPTS="${TCPSERVER_OPTS} -R" /var/qmail/control/conf-qmqpd:TCPSERVER_OPTS="${TCPSERVER_OPTS} -R" My question is, why -R option doesn't used by default for conf-pop3d and conf-pop3sd? I've to add it manually each time on all servers because without it Windows users suffer from significant delay each time they trying to fetch mail from server. Identd rarely used nowadays, but it's usual to block unused ports on firewall by dropping packets, and I think this result in these delays when tcpserver trying to make ident request. So, I think it may be even better to move -R option to conf-common instead of adding it for each one service.
