People should have the possibility to test SPF. See http://spf.pobox.com/ There's a qmail patch on http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/ Also this this thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=131572 (in addition I've posted a bugfix...) Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce:
minor cleanups: http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/qmail-1.03-r15-spf-rc1.patch
Update: Christophe has a new version ready at http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/qmail-spf-rc2.patch Christophe: Any work being done on getting that one to work with qmail-1.03-r15? I would really _love_ to using it!
This is already the latest patch. I released -rc2 because I had a small bug in -rc1. The gentoo-rc1 file had it right (I'm sort of maintaining two trees and patching them up separately using interdiffs, I don't know exactly how that happened). So, the link above is the latest and greatest. I've made a copy if it to: http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/qmail-1.03-r15-spf-rc2.patch Just to make you guys happy. ;)
Cool, thanks very much!
just curious when we will see this in portage
sorry, i'm very busy with work and real life at the moment, but I can say that I want to have a new qmail release out sometime in late august, with the ~50 odd outstanding items that people have requested, including this.
Created attachment 36271 [details] qmail ebuild with spf and 3 new use flags see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1383371#1383371
I've got a version -rc3 out for the SPF patch. It ignores DNS lookup failures in the spfguess rules. There was someone who couldn't send any mails because his provider is unable to the the name servers return PTR records, always returns DNS failures...
any word on how this is coming along?
i'm doing some very early testing on a new version of qmail, it definetly still needs quite a bit more work before I even put it in ~arch.
How about some bleeding edge testing phase in -*? By the way, I'm using Christophe's patch (qmail-1.03-r15-spf-rc2.patch) on our main mail server at work for quite some months now, and it works absolutely perfectly. Again, great work, Christophe!
I have also applied the SPF patch against r15, and it works beautifully. I had to hand-patch 2 or 3 files because of rejected chunks, but once that was done in built smoothly, and has been running well for several weeks.
Just an additional note... When I said I had applied the patch, I meant the patch against vanilla qmail from the website listed in the original bug description. Not the patch included in the attachments. ;)
poke?
haplo: sorry, school has taken over almost all of my time. if a group of concerned users want to get together and merge all of the patches/requests for qmail (somebody else made a very good start on this already, in a bug posted today), I can try and make time to review it and put it in the tree, but no gaurentees - this is strongly preferably to just putting in one person's work.
Important security fix (buffer overflow in dns TXT parser with strange TXT records): http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/qmail-1.03-r15-spf-rc4.patch
I'm not going to apply these patches, as we are going with qmail spp (bug #40486) instead, and it has plugins for libspf. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 40486 ***
