Samuli: I don't think masking is necessary in this case. We should furthermore fix the dvb-headers (ebuild) dependencies (I am on it already) and also fix the the ebuilds that depend upon the dvb-headers. e.g. when you use the prior stable linux-headers (2.6.39) you're already using DVB API 5.2. So almost all packages that were working with 2.6.39 headers should work with API 5.3 (>=linux-headers-3.0) as well. I'll keep this bug open for the moment, as a reminder to fix all dependencies. Btw. we're not going to stabilizie the new DVB headers until at least all dependencies have been fixed.
