Switching from 3.0_pre5 to pre6 brought in the problems reported in my dmesg attached. In particular, alsa modules could not be loaded. I use 2.6.1-rc1. Moreover, it reported some modules weren't there at boot time (but they were!). This isn't in dmesg for an unknown reason. Reverting back solved the problem. This means there's something that doesn't work with the updated code... I can confirm this problem, also with snd_intel8x0. I managed to get around it though, by altering the alsasound init script. It modprobes the items in variable DRIVERS one by one, and by default the order comes out as DRIVERS="snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-seq-oss snd_intel8x0" Changing this so snd_intel8x0 was first "fixed" the problem. I'm using alsa-1.0.1 in mm-sources-2.6.2-rc1-mm3
Same problem here with snd-emu10k1. Reverting back to pre5 soved the problem. BTW, I saw on kernel.org's ftp there's a pre7 version... released just one day after pre6...
I forgot to mention that I use gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.1-r1, patched with alsa 1.0.1.
