Eclipse version 4.2 development build is released. Latest Eclipse version in portage is 3.5* and latest version found in other repo's is 3.7*. Reproducible: Always
Today Indigo (v3.7) officially got replaced by Juno (v4.2). Would be great to see it in portage. Bump Bump Bump!
yeah, please update
If there are still this messy build-system problems, please provide a eclipse-bin, until they are solved.

The main problem with that package is that it's self-updating. It's a nice feature but completely orthogonal to what we do by using portage. I assume you wouldn't want eclipse without ability to download updates and plugins, would you? The best way up to date is IMHO to install it manually.
I have finally tested dev-util/eclipse-sdk-bin-4.2.0 from "java-overlay" (I am no Java-developer) and it works well. At least all the help tools that never worked in 3.* work now. And updating/installing add-ons work fine as well. (You do update Eclipse in your home folder anyway.) Oh, and it was nice enough to silently import all my workspaces without any complaints. Everything is working as before, even the autotools projects. But of course a non-bin version would be better.
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/ looks like eclipse-sdk 4.2.1 is available
when using bin v4.2.1 from java-overlay, installing plugin CDT, fail with: An error occurred while configuring the installed items session context was:(profile=epp.package.java, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Configure, operand=null --> [R]org.eclipse.platform.ide 4.2.1.M20120914-1800, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.natives.actions.MkdirAction). Could not create directory /opt/eclipse-sdk-bin-4.2/dropins. why dont't the dropin dir in the home dir? :(

Thanks.

there is a ebuild now for this package in main portage tree, even this REQUEST is 2 years old?
what is the status of it ? Is anyone working on it ? I am not a Gentoo programmer but I can help on creating ebuild for Eclipse 4.3 which is out there
I think the problem is that it is self updating and need to be splited right or something. I also would be lucky if someone could do this. I want to program an android app on eclipse with android-sdk. The binary version is really slow and hang up if you want to update it. Also many heap memory problems and such. On the self machine the windows version is fast. Amit Perelman: Would be nice if you could create one or maybe on the base of the old 3.x ebuild. I would test it then. Maybe to less people on gentoo using it. Or is there a other good android IDE in portage?
