For me, makes no sense to have as default +static-libs. From a question on irc I've learned that many programs like syslog-ng needs static-libs USE on glib. So I think that other many programs must have a depend like: DEPEND=" dev-libs/glib[static-libs] " and not glib with +static-libs as default Thanks for the attention.
We'll do this with glib-2.30. No point shaking up stable with broken dependencies.
Not only that but it also avoids user complaining about having to enable a use flag by hand when upgrading.

Any progress here? I still think we should keep it enabled by default to prevent people to need to edit their package.use flags as that is needed by really commonly used packages.

After a recent discussion in #gentoo-desktop, it appears that the glib[static-libs] is no longer needed on a default install. In particular, recent syslog-ng now only needs it for USE=static, which is not enabled by default. The '+' has been removed in glib-2.31.22 in the gnome overlay, and will be removed in glib-2.32 which will probably be released and added to portage some time next week.
Already fixed in 2.32
