I will not test mesa-8.1_rc1_pre20120724 because of other bugs. Besides, the laptop that exhibited the bug is now physically broken.

Reported as https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53972 , also tried (unsuccessfully) to create a reproducer using apitrace. It seems that the game genuinely tries to do different things with OpenGL given the two Mesa versions - so it may well be a bug in the game exposed e.g. by new OpenGL extensions. I don't mind if you close it as INVALID here without investigation.

As of media-libs/mesa-9_pre20120831-r1, the bug no longer exists.
