Description David King 2011-06-17 10:00:01 UTC
Brasero crashes when attempting to burn (or create an image of) a video project. The backtrace shows that some GStreamer plugins and applications that Brasero needs are missing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Brasero
2. Select the ‘Video project’ option
3. Add video (with a supported codec installed, I used Ogg Theora with a Ogg Vorbis soundtrack, and had gst-plugins-vorbis and gst-plugins-theora installed) to the project
4. Click ‘Burn…’
Actual Results:
Brasero crashes.

Expected Results:
Brasero writes a video project to disc (or an image).

Runtime dependencies on media-plugins/gst-plugins-mplex, media-video/vcdimager and media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2enc are required for writing a VCD/SVCD. For DVD Video, media-video/dvdauthor is additionally required. Installing the runtime dependencies stops the crashes, although I am still unable to successfully create an image or write to a disc, as the conversion process hangs. The GStreamer plugins currently do not have stable keywords on amd64 (the platform that I am testing on).

crash while attempting to burn a dvd video
Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-06-17 19:01:31 UTC
Please let bug-buddy report this crashes to upstream as brasero shouldn't crash when plugins are missing, then, post the link here
Comment 5 David King 2011-06-18 08:23:59 UTC
It seems that there is already an upstream bug, with the same backtrace:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633964
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-06-18 11:27:02 UTC
OK, then:
1. The crash will need to be handled directly by upstream in their report, once they fix it, we will try to backport the fix.
2. A "vcd" USE flag needs to be added to gst-plugins-meta to pull in mplex gst plugin (bug #372157).
3. brasero looks to also require two new USE flags:
- "vcd" to pull in gst-plugins-meta with vcd USE flag and vcdimager
- "dvd" for dvdauthor
