After completing an initial installation of Gentoo from install-amd64-minimal-20110609.iso (following the standard installation instructions at www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-amd64.xml), at the first reboot the system stops after detecting USB peripherals. There was no udev entry in /etc/runlevels/sysinit, which is suspicious in itself, so I added it with (cd /etc/runlevels/sysinit && ln -s /etc/init.d/udev udev). I thought that would fix it, but it didn't: the machine still stops before running init. The system is alive, and shows me it's detected a USB stick I've plugged in, but it doesn't start init. This is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61, and it did have a Gentoo system running recently, both before and after the upgrade to openrc.
