After updating my system, the first time I start kmail, I see a process to convert my old mail configuration to a new kmail2 configuration and then all time I start kmail (now kmail2) it appears a pop-up telling me "kmail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection." and it exits. running into a consolle: # kmail --fork kmail2(3281)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: paolo@achdjian-paolo ~ $ kmail2(3281)/libakonadi Akonadi::SpecialCollectionsRequestJob::slotResult: Failed SpecialCollectionsRequestJob::slotResult "Unknown error. I succeeded to start again kmail erasing all the ./config/akonadi directory. I don't understand enough kde and akonadi to tell why now it works, but if to any guy want investigate deeply, I can attach my old akonadi configuration files.
Same error here. In my case the problem is akonadi_maildir_resource_3 I think: [...] kmail2(9878)/libakonadi Akonadi::SpecialCollectionsRequestJobPrivate::resourceScanResult: Failed to request resource "akonadi_maildir_resource_3" : "Unknown error. (Failed to fetch the resource collection.)" [...] In Akonadi Console, I do not see this resource. Grepping through .kde4/share/config/, I find the 'akonadi_maildir_resource_3' as DefaultResourceId in the file specialmailcollectionsrc only. I deleted the file, but it is recreated identically when Akonadi is restarted. I created a new Maildir resource (it's called akonadi_maildir_resource_5), and put that into specialmailcollectionsrc. Now kmail sort of works. Well, I get other errors, but at least it no longer crashes.
Please try kdepim-4.7 and tell us the result!
