Description Jared B. 2011-05-18 01:08:02 UTC
I just installed the Linux version of Heretic II and found that I could not enable OpenGL support. The game played fine with the software renderer, but immediately crashed after switching to OpenGL. After a bit of investigation, I found that it's caused by the same GL_EXTENSIONS problem as described in bug 326837 for Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

I've confirmed that the same fix works as well; that is prepending '__GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 ' to the exec line in the heretic2 wrapper script. I've attached a tiny patch for the ebuild to do this automatically.

Also, not to this problem (but not worth filing a separate bug report), shouldn't this be categorized under games-fps rather than games-action? All other doom-/quake-derived games are classified under FPS with the sole exception of heretic2 and heretic2-demo. If it's decided to fix this OpenGL issue, it might also be a good opportunity to reclassify if appropriate.

Reproducible: Always
