I think I have a similar error, but since I have different versions of the boost libraries, I get a different result. I have versions 1.41 and 1.42 of boost installed and eselect has 1.42 set. When I compile gnash, it has trouble linking the binary because it can't find the proper function. I'm assuming that gnash is compiling against one version of boost and linking against the other? I'm attaching my build log for further verification.
Created attachment 277295 [details] build.log for gnash-0.8.9 This is gzipped to fit under the size restrictions.
I tried to change the version of boost to 1.41 instead of 1.42 and came up with the same error. If you look closely at the configure script results, you can see that it is indeed picking the two versions for build and linking differently.
The workaround is to unmerge all except the latest version of boost. The problem is in the macros/boost.m4 file, but I have not yet had time to investigate more closely.
I was seeing this as well, although in my case I had: $ eselect boost list Available boost versions: [1] boost-1.37/default [2] boost-1.42/default [3] boost-1.46/default * And in my build log: checking for the Boost Version... checking for boost header... -I/usr/X11R6/include/boost-1_46 -I/usr/include/boost-1_46 checking for Boost libraries... -L/usr/lib64 -lboost_thread-1_37 -lboost_program_options-1_37 And the build fails w/ several undefined references to `boost::program_options::options_description::. I did emerge -vac \<boost-1.45, unmerging 1.37.0-r1 & 1.42.0-r2 (nothing I have merged depends on the older versions), and then gnash built & merged as expected.

I also have a problem with gnash-0.8.10-r1,in that in the configure it's looking for GLES2 glu.h. A search doesn't reveal that opengles is included into portage. Which is creating the problem,I have /usr/include/GL/glu.h but this appears to be not the right one. Any suggestions how we can get around this one Geoff make[2]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/www-plugins/gnash-0.8.10-r1/work/gnash-0.8.10/librender' CXX libgnashrender_la-Renderer_ogl.lo In file included from opengl/Renderer_ogl.cpp:24:0: opengl/Renderer_ogl.h:46:21: fatal error: GL/glu.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make[2]: *** [libgnashrender_la-Renderer_ogl.lo] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/www-plugins/gnash-0.8.10-r1/work/gnash-0.8.10/librender' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/www-plugins/gnash-0.8.10-r1/work/gnash-0.8.10' make: *** [all] Error 2

sorry, I meant bug 406641

(In reply to comment #10) > sorry, I meant bug 406641 Noted Christopher,in future I'll try deeper searches, though I really didn't think that mesa may have been the hassle,I was searching for GLSE2. Ignore my latest addition, this occurred last night bynot being able to access the server, causing me to send off today without any other checks. Geoff
Hi, I am reluctant to open another account to lay one bug in a bug-tracker. So could any one with an account on the bug-tracker for gnash tell it that a m4 script exists that handles boost correctly (as we can guess from libcmis using it and not having problem with this in emerging). http://github.com/tsuna/boost.m4 I took a look on gnash own boost.m4 : its hack on headers works, so we get latest boost ; but for libs it gets lost. We can not just boost is heavy to merge/quickpkg/unmerge/re-emerge Thanks in advance.
Created attachment 328666 [details, diff] Patch to remove boost version mangling Is this bug valid now that boost is unslotted? Anyhow, the attached patch removes the fancy handling of the boost version, since it should only need to find the include and lib symlinks.
