As per summary, please test with IPMI-enabled systems before marking stable.

For x86, I have no way to do this. The absence of reports from ATs seems to indicate that the same applies to them. What should we do?
Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-07-01 07:20:09 UTC
Infra, sorry to bother you, but you seem to be the only guys who have access to test this. Can you help?

That was 4 months ago. If you want x86 to proceed without the hardware, please CC us again. Otherwise we have nothing to do here.
Comment 4 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-26 10:43:09 UTC
Okay so we can't keep up in the stable tree with freeipmi versions; can we then drop the 0.8.9 one and just let the users know they have to use the ~arch version?

Comment 5 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-10-22 19:16:46 UTC
Diego, these packages depend on freeipmi

and other packages depend on this packages as well. dropping keywords will cause a lot of pain. Can't we just keep freeipmi-0.8.9 around as the last stable version of freeipmi?
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-10-23 00:15:27 UTC
No we can't, because 0.8.9 IS BROKEN.

So you can either keep a keyworded non-working package which is crap, or you can de-keyword the packages. Or you can find somebody to test this.

I remember that Tony have hw to test and told me about this package.

Tony, can you test and mark stable?

eix freeipmi
[I] sys-libs/freeipmi
     Available versions:  0.8.9 ~1.0.7 (~)1.0.7-r1 {debug}
     Installed versions: 1.0.7-r1(09:59:36 23.10.2011)(-debug)
Description: Provides Remote-Console and System Management Software as per IPMI v1.5/2.0

Don't know how to use this software, i just tried out some commands.
I guess ipmi has to be configured to work probably.
With ipmi-sensors i also get an error at the end of the output. Is that normal? Maybe because its not configured? I'll get similar error with other commands too.

The /etc/init.d/bmc-watchdog starts successful, but i think the rm command in the init script is useless. the start-stop-daemon deletes already the pid file and thus stopping the service will always fail..

I think its the same with ipmidetectd, but i can't test it because ipmidetectd fails anyway since i didn't configured anything:
# ipmidetectd
ipmidetectd: No nodes configured

If i can do more, let me know :)
Comment 13 Michael Mair-Keimberger (iamnr3) 2011-10-23 09:07:32 UTC
about the init scripts.. forget what i said.. i didn't do etc-update ;)

The test request is specifically for x86. We have lots of amd64 test results already.

x86 stable keyword dropped for those and freeipmi-0.8.9 as requested.

I couldn't find any more reverse deps using

I don't have any results. Do you have any results for sys-libs/freeipmi-1.0.4 so we can mark it stable?
Comment 17 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-02 10:41:04 UTC
amd64 one way or the other please proceed.
Comment 18 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-04 00:33:40 UTC
@Infra sorry for cc'ing you directly but I would like to hear from you whether you are able to test freeipmi on our amd64 boxes. Thanks
Comment 19 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-12-09 21:25:58 UTC
Infra has been using it so stable for amd64
