Description János Csárdi-Braunstein 2011-03-29 09:39:44 UTC
ZendGuardLoader works only with php 5.3, and ZendOptimizer works with php 5.2.

So, why do you want to remove this package from the portage tree?

Please modify this package, to depends only php 5.2, and leave in the portage tree.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- dev-php5/ZendOptimizer-3.3.9-r2 (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Ole Markus With <olemarkus@gentoo.org> (03 Mar 2011)
# Masked 30 days for removal.
# Fetch restrictions. Does not work with >=dev-lang/php-5.3

Sorry, but PHP 5.2 is reaching its end of life shortly and then removed from the tree, so you are only buying yourself a few months if I am to lift the mask.
Comment 2 Thomas Beutin 2011-03-31 12:06:39 UTC
actually i don't understand this behavoir. As long as dev-lang/php:5.2 is unmasked in portage tree this shold be unmasked too. "A few months" is probably enough for someone
And a fetch restriction is IMHO no reason at all to mask a package.

just my 2 cents...

I absolutely agree. There is no reason to mask or remove this from the portage tree as it doesn't need maintaing and PHP 5.2 is still supported.

If you don't want to maintain it any more, please mask it, but don't remove it, then we can at least unmask it for ourselves. Having a private overlay is cumbersome and counterproductive.

I have masked it. I have done the last rights. Comments were made in bug #346043. Sorry, but for me, this case is closed.
