patch that removes the kvm.h include for DarwinOS target

I ran into this issue too, attached a patch that should be added to the ebuild for Mac 10.5. Not sure about 10.6 although I can test that in a day or two (going to upgrade).

Comment 4 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2011-03-28 07:02:24 UTC
Oh crap, my bad. It compiled on Tiger, but was masked before due to experimentalness.

I doubt the patch is right, as kvm was removed in 10.5 and up. (I'm on 10.4...)

Probably need to disable building the start-stop-deamon stuff, as it isn't used anyway.

The patch should be correct for all 10.* versions looking at the code. The patch simply removes the kvm.h include for the case of DarwinOS. Looking closer at the code it is indeed a bug to be including kvm.h for DarwinOS. If you look where the kvm namespace is actually used in start-stop-daemon.c it's all under an ifdefine that excludes the DarwinOS target which means kvm.h is never used even when it's successfully included on Mac.

This sounds like a much better approach all together :D

It was disabled before, and maybe it's the right thing to do for now even for bug#360917.

However, It'd be cool if we once can use start-stop-daemon even in Prefix.
So I did the AIX port right now (using gnulib).

As I doubt grobian is upstream of baselayout:
Who is it to report the AIX patches to?
Comment 7 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2011-03-28 15:00:50 UTC
We use an old and dead version, IMO. I never felt the need to go after baselayout-2 for prefix.
Comment 8 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2011-03-28 15:11:41 UTC
I applied the patch for Darwin, it indeed doesn't harm my 10.4 install. Closing this one, if there is need, we should probably discuss further actions to be taken on bug #196294

(next, solaris bug)
