Description Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-27 13:59:04 UTC
Since shortly, apps do not respect my default brwoser settings anymore. I set it to chromium, but firefox is opened.
tested with pidgin, rapisvn git-cola, thunderbird. So it seems to be a gnome thing and not an apps specific bug.
Comment 1 Nirbheek Chauhan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-27 14:04:47 UTC
This is there because you upgraded to glib-2.28, which changed the way in which preferred applications for browser/mail/etc are chosen.

A fix for this was recently committed to the tree, you need to upgrade gnome-session and gnome-control-center, and set your preferred applications again.

I think we should keep this bug open for a few days so that people don't file dupe bugs.

This is fixed, but a lot of apps need to fix their desktop files, see for example bug #360797 and latest changes in evolution-2.32.2-r2
Comment 6 Albert W. Hopkins 2011-03-28 19:28:40 UTC
I had not known there was a problem before, having run gnome-control-center-2.32.1 since earlier this month.

Then this morning after upgrading to -r1 I noticed that when I click on URLs in applications (such as evolution), the page opens up in gedit.

Going into "Preferred Applications" I see that there is no "Web Browser" selected and it's greyed out so I cannot select one.

Downgrading back to gnome-control-center-2.32.1 resolves the issue.

I'd like to correct my previous comment.

It appears I am having the same issue.

I upgraded to the g-c-c -r1 and rebooted and, yes, Epiphany is the only web browser selectable. I used to use Chromium, but it's not even an option anymore and the "Custom" option is now missing :(

Working around it now by symlinking chromium-browser to ~/.local/bin/epiphany
