For gnome-base/gdm, the "49-keychain" and "50-ssh-agent" scripts copied from "${FILESDIR}" to "/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/" run which to get the pathname of the keychain and ssh-agent executables, respectively. If they are not found, which outputs a message to standard error, which ends up in the user's ~/.xsession-errors file. This is different behaviour than the GNOME-supplied "80-dbus" script, which does redirect the standard error output from `which`. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Remove keychain (if it exists) from the path. 2. Log in with gdm 3. Examine the ~/.xsession-errors file Actual Results: The .xsession-errors file contains something like this: /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... which: no keychain in the problem is that those files should actually be provided by their respective packages. I'd be more inclined to remove them once proper keyring (ssh and gpg agents) support has been added.
