Hi, I also stumbled upon this problem, so I tried upgrading to dev-php5/pecl-http-1.7.0-r1, and that one seems to work fine for me. Although that was on x86 and I had to accept ~x86 keyword and set PHP_TARGETS="php5-3" in make.conf.
