Description David Girault 2010-12-02 15:50:44 UTC
According to output during 'ebuild tk-8.5.8-r1.ebuild configure', configure fail to link with Xft.
------------
checking whether to use xft... yes
checking for X11/Xft/Xft.h... yes
checking for FT_New_Face in -lXft... no
configure: WARNING: Can't find xft configuration, or xft is unusable
---------------

Since freetype library is not included in the linker command, it is a normal way. The symbol that should be checked must be in the Xft library.

So, for example, checking for the XftFontOpen instead in FT_New_Face is successfull.

Adding this line in src_prepare() function before the eautoreconf, and them you have Xft support back in tk:

        sed -i 's/FT_New_Face/XftFontOpen/g' unix/configure.in

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. ebuild /usr/portage/dev-lang/tk/tk-8.5.8-r1.ebuild clean configure
2. look at configure output, Xft support was disable
3.

Actual Results:
Fail to use Xft
Comment 1 David Girault 2010-12-02 15:52:32 UTC
The tk-8.5.9.ebuild in bug #347561 already have the sed line.

since libXft-2.2.0 is stable now, the stable tree is broken.

It's not a question of stable Xft, but of correct usage of as-needed. But you are right. I will backport the patch to 8.5.8-r1.

For whatever reason, libXft-2.1.14 (the previous stable version) did not cause this problem, even when using as-needed. But since it's (presumably) fixed now, all's good.
