This is an updated ebuild for lout. The old one is years outdated, and to top, the makefile patch didn't apply to the newest sources. I rewrote the makefile patch completely, I think this way it works better and I can offer it to the upstream author. The ebuild still works by patching the makefile, but it should be a more "normal" ebuild now. I can maintain it if necessary. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: emerge lout emerge unmerge lout

please attach the ebuild and any modified files or patches as plain text.

See http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ebuild-submit.xml, specifically the last part of 2. Comments on your ebuild: o Header is incorrect, see /usr/portage/skel.ebuild o New ebuilds are always marked ~arch. o You should only include the archs in KEYWORDS you have actually tested on o RDEPEND is not required o the chmod's in postinst should be done in the sandbox o echo lines arent really required I'll test this weekend and report further.
Okay. I waited 10 days to see if I calmed down, but I didn't. And neither have I received any further word. Now see here: I know you are voluntary work and you're doing this under no obligation whatsoever. But wouldn't you agree I'm under even less obligation? I'm not asking for a favor here, I'm offering a contribution. I gain absolutely nothing if you accept it and lose absolutely nothing if you refuse it (except maybe a few bytes of disk space as I remove it from /usr/local/portage). In fact, I'm removing myself from CC and fiddling with my bugzilla preferences to leave me out of mail updates. Your comments sound meaningless to me, as I'm not submitting a *new* ebuild, but an improvement over an existing ebuild that is crammed with errors and hopelessly outdated, and seemingly nobody bothers to maintain. Regardless of what is written in your documentation, I reserve the right to find it stupid to upload three files separatly instead of building a tarball. I have no idea what "the sandbox" is and have absolutely no interest in learning. I have more pressing things to do with my machine than hack portage, which I leave to people for whom this is a higher priority - and therefore people that can dedicate a reasonable time to the task. If everyone chose to give up developing software to maintain ebuilds, debs and rpms, there would be no new software to package. I just took an ebuild, fixed the stuff that seemed obviously wrong to me, and let the rest as I found it. If you decide to accept this CONTRIBUTION, fine. If you decide to fix a few extra things before accepting, fine too. If you decide it isn't worth your time, fine too - scratch it and mark this bug as WONTFIX. However, in this case I respectfully suggest you remove lout from the portage tree, because the current ebuild is worse than nothing. And whatever you do, don't make aggressive, arrogant, uncaring, rough, or even clueless, comments to people who make contributions. The only thing this achieves is convincing them the time they spent working on it was wasted and that they should have seen a movie instead. Or perhaps researched the merits of other distributions in the hopes of finding a better one.
Sorry for the delay and we apologise if you feel embarrassed. We didn't think your ebuild was a request of update, and it seems that original ebuild was badly written. It wasn't you that should fix that ebuild but Gentoo developers who committed it. I added your ebuild to CVS with some modification (according to Comment #6). We are very thankful to your contribution and it is sad to give you bad feeling. I hope your work be successful regardless of the distributions you choose.
