Description Vladimir 2010-11-10 21:59:49 UTC
After a recent Xfce update xfce4-weather-plugin doesn't work any more.
When I start xfce4-panel from the terminal (to see the error log) and try to add a Weather plugin to it, I get the following error message:

########## Begin log ##########

(xfce4-panel:11355): xfconf-WARNING **: Error check failed at IA__xfconf_channel_has_property():639: Property "/plugins/plugin-19" does not exist on channel "xfce4-panel"
The program 'xfce4-weather-plugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 171 error_code 8 request_code 70 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

########### End log ###########

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge xfce-base/xfce4-panel-4.7.4
2. emerge xfce-extra/xfce4-weather-plugin-0.7.3-r1
3. Try to add a Weather plugin to the panel

Indeed, it will be masked for removal if there is not update from upstream by the time 4.8 final is out.

# xfce4-weather-plugin, runtime crash, should be ported to libxfce4ui etc.

# These need to be fixed by January, otherwise they'll get removed from tree when 4.8.0 goes stable.

Comment 3 Vladimir 2011-01-05 09:03:31 UTC
There is an upstream bugreport on this issue:
http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6965
Comment 4 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-01-11 10:18:41 UTC
This plug-in was removed from tree because it's not compatible with Xfce Panel 4.7/4.8 -> Closing as WONTFIX
Comment 5 Pierre 2011-02-23 22:34:57 UTC
I'm sorry but the upstream bug has been fixed so there may be a solution
Comment 6 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-02-23 22:39:02 UTC
Yeah, this should be fixed with 0.7.4 (in portage)
