I don't know the rationale behind checking for the interface running before executing dhcpd, but it wasn't right for my system. In my box the eth0 interface is initially down and not listed by ifconfig at all. It is the dhcpd that brings it up. I had to comment that `carrier' check in /etc/init.d/net.eth0 in order to get network to work. Kernel: 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 Baselayout: 1.8.6.12
