In the printing documentation, the following is written: "Enable Support for Windows PCL Drivers PCL drivers send raw data to the print server. To enable raw printing on CUPS, you need to edit /etc/cups/mime.types and uncomment the line application/octet-stream if it is not already uncommented. Then you need to edit /etc/cups/mime.convs and do the same, if it is not already uncommented. " However, the location of these files have changed. It is now (in cups-1.4.4) /usr/share/cups/mime/mime.convs /usr/share/cups/mime/mime.types This should be mentioned to avoid confusion. Reproducible: Always
There's nothing we can do about this until 1.4 is marked stable. We don't document ~arch packages. Going to mark this as REMIND, so we can revisit the guide once the arch teams have stabilized the package some time in the future.
Now 4 months has passed since the stabilisation of cups-1.4.6-r2 and we are now on 1.4.8-r1 on all arch (except mips and *-fbsd, where there isn't a stable version), isn't it time to actually do something about it? In particular, whereas /etc is CONFIG_PROTECT'ed, /usr/share/cups/mime (or parents) isn't, does that mean after every time cups is emerge'd we have to remember to edit it? Also, is there any reason why this bug cannot be reopened when it is time to REMIND?
