Now I have the same issue at the next computer. I can see sometimes my contacs, but I can't change existing or add new contacts.

Something might be crashing. Can you please try to get the messages in english ? LC_ALL="en_US" evolution might help.
Thanks Gilles, I have two boxes where the issue occures. At the first I see the error message and I did not see my contacts in the last weeks. At the second I see the error message, can see my contacts but can not modify my contacts. After trying 'LC_ALL="en_US" evolution' I can also read the contacts at the first box, but nothing has changed with the possibility to change the contacs.
I still get the same error message, when I switch in evolution form e-mail to contacs. But now I am able to enter data for a new contact. I have the same issue: ---- The Evolution address book has quit unexpectedly. Your contacts for file:///home/lxg/.evolution/addressbook/local/system will not be available until Evolution is restarted. ---- I also can confirm, that sometimes after starting Evo, the contacts are visible, sometimes not. In either case, I cannot edit them. When creating a new e-mail, auto-completing doesn't work, but I see the contacts when I click the “To:” button. Some additions: - This started after I have installed app-pda/syncevolution, then played a bit with the “Sync” application. I don't say that there's a connection, it's just an observation. - I started Evolution with a new (freshly created) user on the same system. After creating an initial account and switching to Contacts, the same error message appeared. - Rebuilding eds, evolution and syncevolution doesn't help. - Rebooting doesn't help. I have now: - uninstalled syncevolution - emerge -ve @world - rebooted. The problem has disappeared. The error message does no longer appear, and I can edit contacts.
Does original reporter also suffer this only when using syncevolution?
It is likely, that on both affected computers syncevolution is installed. I will check this as soon as possible.

Please try with: gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-2.32.1-r1 mail-client/evolution-2.32.1-r1 Works ok for me and upstream fixed some bugs related with contacts
