I will work on a fix.

This builds w/o any QA warnings on my amd64 box with --hash-style=gnu. I think the issue is your LDFLAGS. You have:
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -z,now,-O1,--hash-style=gnu,--sort-common"

I tested those and confirmed that would generate an error, however, -z,-now,-O1,--hash-style=gnu,--sort-common are not getting passed to the linker as they do not have the preceding -Wl. I'm pretty sure your LDFLAGS should read:
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-z,now,-O1,--hash-style=gnu,--sort-common"

I tested that change and everything worked fine for me. I can also confirm that the package is respecting LDFLAGS just by checking the output. (in the future a build log is helpful =) )

Would you please confirm that this resolves the issue and report back?
Comment 3 Lie Ryan 2010-08-11 20:43:16 UTC
yep, that fixed the issue, sorry for the noise; I accidentally removed the -Wl flag in light of the recent portage news. Closing.
