if chromium opened as first desktop application, then audio system fails to serve chromium itself and flash plays without sound, and any other audio application fails too.

but if open epiphany first and it play a web page flash with sound, then all works well.

Can it be reproduced with a version other than -9999 (can be hard masked)? Which version of pulseaudio with what USE flags?

fkhp, could you provide more detailed, easily repeatable steps to reproduce? I do not have pulseaudio on my system, please include more info about your setup.

Also, could you approximately identify the earliest revision this is happening with, and the latest revision that does not have this problem? Those do not to be exact (do not waste too much time compiling), but will help me a lot when I start bisecting.

recent chromium-9999 works well and you need not take care of this bug report any more. my system is highly unstable with many masked packages and is updated almost every day, it is hard to make a test in the original way now. and the gnome-volume-control-applet-2.31.5 has some problem presently.
