checking for POPPLER... no configure: error: "PDF support is disabled since poppler-glib library version 0.12.0 or newer not found" There is no poppler-glib package in the official tree (although I think there used to be) # equery files poppler | grep glib /usr/lib64/libpoppler-glib.so /usr/lib64/libpoppler-glib.so.4 /usr/lib64/libpoppler-glib.so.4.0.0 /usr/lib64/libpoppler-glib.so.5 /usr/lib64/libpoppler-glib.so.5.0.0 Reproducible: Always
I cannot reproduce your problem :-/, poppler-glib is provided by app-text/poppler. Please attach full build.log, config.log, "emerge --info app-text/poppler" output
poppler-0.14.0 didn't have poppler-glib poppler-0.14.0-r1 has make sure you have -r1
Uhm, make sure evince-2.30.2 has the right dependencies?
It has the right dependencies
Then there is something I don't understand. The ebuild says ">=app-text/poppler-0.12.3-r3[cairo]" <-> "poppler-0.14.0-r1 has. make sure you have -r1"
What poppler version do you have? I think comment #2 is clear enough
Yes, #2 is clear. I also understand that if it is necessary to have a certain version of a package, it should be enforced by portage, not by the user. Thanks for being arrogant. I'm just trying to improve ebuild quality.
Why do you think I am being arrogant? :-/ I can only say you that: 1. This works fine for me with app-text/poppler-0.12.4-r3 2. Samuli explained us that having poppler-0.14.0 instead of -r1 could cause this problem. 3. You haven't provided information requested in comment #1 and we don't have any idea about what poppler installation do you have on your system. You also haven't provided any other information always requested in bugs (as pointed by emerge when merging fails) like "emerge --info", build.log... Maybe I should have made this full explanation before, but I didn't understand why you suggested ebuild dependencies are wrong without even telling us what poppler version do you have. Sorry if my previous replies seemed like "arrogant", it wasn't my intention at all
Looking at the time I submitted this, this was on the system I use at work. Will have to get back to you after the weekend.

CCing poppler maintainers since this doesn't occur with current stable
Comment on attachment 237549 [details] evince 2.30.3 failed emerge's temp directory The log file with meaning from evince would be config.log from the failed ./configure, this tarball doesn't include it. But I don't think that will do us any good, rather build.log from poppler-0.14.0-r1 would be needed so we can see why poppler-glib didn't get built.
Futhermore this *might* be one of the libpng upgrade issues, make sure you have followed the postinst message from libpng. The script, the revdep-rebuild command it prints out. Then you could also "emerge -1 cairo pango gtk+ libglade" before re-emerging poppler, see if poppler-glib shows up... it's heavily cairo dependant.
Due to lack of updated information in the last 2 weeks, there is no way we can further help you solve this problem. Thanks for reporting anyway.
