Can confirm this; I have been seeing it too. Investigating...
I can also confirm this problem, this is happening only on first time the akonadi is trying to start. It produce this error and it's preventing me to use kmail or kaddress book but after a while it seems that it actually starting despite the error, so when I will start kmail or kontact second time the akonadi is ready and the applications are working. According to upstream bug fixed in kde-4.4.5. Please reopen if the problem reappears with kde-4.4.5 or later.
