Description Xavier Sosnowski 2003-11-02 11:03:32 UTC
Hello there,

I was wondering if an ebuild would be available soon for PHP5-beta2 (mod_php). I
saw that one was available in portage but, according to the forums, it's only
the CLI version and not mod_php.

I'd like to apologize if bugzilla is not the place for such requests but as I
saw a category for 'requests for new features', I thought it would be the place.

Thank you in advance
xso

lisa/coredumb: you were handling PHP5 stuff, you've got my go-ahead to make
the ebuilds for mod_php5, just keep it hard-masked for now.

robbat2: no need to add me to CC, i'm on php-bugs :)
As for mod_php5, i'll try to find some time to work on it, possibly tomorrow
afternoon (i'll also add php-5.0_beta2).

Thanks a lot. That's great new indeed.

Hi lisa/coredumb,
I was just wondering if you would have any idea about when the ebuild for portage would be available. Not a rush, really, just for my information ;-)
Thanks in advance.
Xavier

OK, hopefully i'll find some time to work on this tomorrow (no promises though).
What i wish to do is add a big case $PV in the eclass in order to seperate the php4 and php5 build process (which will allow us to add support for lots of new nifty features in php5 without ugly hack [well it is an ugly hack as well, but less ugly, imo :) ])

Hi lisa/coredumb,
Sorry to bug you with that again but I was just wondering how things were going. I'd like to keep portage to manage all things on my 2 Gentoo boxes, but if you have no time for this package (quite understandable at this time of the year ;-), I would rather go for compiling it myself, as I'd really like to try a few things out. If you have a minute then just let me know what are your plans. Thanks in advance and cheers.

Xavier

Hi Xavier,
Sorry for not responding here sooner. I just now finished my current project (PEAR Eclass), which was long due. My next one is of course: php5 :)
It will take me awhile (exams ahead, bah!), so in the mean time, if you want to experience php5, just compile it on your own.

Hi.

My current "BLOCKER" is the lack of a suitable dev box to work on at the moment -- for some reason networking _will not work_ on this one box.
Comment 9 Xavier Sosnowski 2003-12-14 10:29:02 UTC
Hi Tal,

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll do it that hard way then. Damn, portage is cool I almost forgot how to do it. And all the best for your exams.

Xavier

bug #45674 is kind of related to this.

Any chance we could at least have a development version of the ebuild? Cause I I seem to be getting is "real soon... we promise..."

Has there been any progress on this ebuild?

approval was given back in December 2003, Stuart Herberts comments from March indicate there might be some movement, and there are even ebuilds for the command line version in portage, but they are from last July.

I've been using the ebuild from the forumns (mentioned in bug 45674) and that works fine.

I and many other PHP developers really would appreciate an ebuild for both the command line & mod_php version. If there's anything we can do to help ...
Comment 14 Owen Griffiths 2004-06-26 18:44:23 UTC
When is there going to be movement on this? This is blocking me and no doubt many others from performing clean installs of mod_php for testing. What needs to be done before this can go forward?

our upstream PHP developer (coredumb) who's been doing the work for us to have PHP5 is presently MIA. We wish we knew what had happened to him ourselves. If he doesn't turn up soon (inside the next few weeks), we'll try to get the time to put in PHP5 ourselves.
Comment 16 Stuart Herbert (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-27 06:54:20 UTC
I've started work on this. However, it's putting up quite a fight, so don't expect anything usable for a few days.

Best regards,
Stu

As you may have seen, PHP5.0.0 has been released, any progress on the ebuild Stu?
Comment 18 Stuart Herbert (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-07-19 05:48:23 UTC
The ebuild is in Portage, and I'm just ironing out the bugs now.

I've been keeping bug #56963 up to date. Totally forgot this one was open too.

Best regards,
Stu
