I am unable to reproduce this configuring against gnome-extra/at-spi-1.30.1, please retry with 2.30.2 (just committed)

Good luck!
Comment 2 vp 2010-06-23 22:33:29 UTC
still an issue for me with 2.30.2

Does it fail in the same way when running configure manually from upstream sources?
Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2010-06-24 09:55:30 UTC
Please also test after re-emerging gnome-extra/at-spi to prevent it's the one compiled from gnome-overlay (affected by bug 323701) instead of the one provided in main tree
Comment 5 vp 2010-06-24 10:24:11 UTC
remerged at-spi, doesn't help

This is a different problem than originally reported by Flammeeyes, please open a new bug report providing build.log, /var/tmp/portage/app-accessibility/orca-2.30.2/work/orca-2.30.2/config.log and "emerge --info at-spi" output
Comment 10 xenon 2010-06-30 16:53:28 UTC
Problem is solved here when configuring orca-2.30.2 against at-spi-1.30.1 from the main tree, while it still occurred against at-spi-1.30.1 from the gnome overlay.

By the way, Pacho Ramos seemed to imply that the portage version would take precedence over the overlay, but that wasn't the case here. Is there a way to force this choice when package versions are the same?

Comment 11 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2010-06-30 19:09:23 UTC
I should probably have revbumped it when pushed "fixed" at-spi version in the tree, then, people that was running broken overlay version wouldn't hit these problems :-/

Please retry with 2.30.2 ensuring you are running at-spi from official tree. Feel free to reopen if it reoccurs (in that case, would be nice to know if it also fails running configure manually on upstream sources).

And other people in CC list, remember that *this* bug report is for configure freezing, not failing (it's a different problem and bug)
Comment 13 David W Noon 2010-08-03 12:12:36 UTC
I still get this problem when emerging orca using all stable packages from mainstream Portage. It just sits there for hours trying to check for pyatspi.
Comment 14 David W Noon 2010-08-03 18:08:26 UTC
Here are some lines from a ps display of what is happening:

root 4623 4314 0 18:02 tty2 00:00:00 [app-accessibility/orca-2.30.2] sandbox "/usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh" compile
root 4624 4623 0 18:02 tty2 00:00:00 /bin/bash /usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh compile
root 4660 4624 0 18:02 tty2 00:00:00 /bin/bash /usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh compile
root 4675 4660 0 18:02 tty2 00:00:00 /bin/sh ./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib

and this particular line:

root 5556 4675 0 18:02 tty2 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2.6 -c ?import sys?try:??import pygtk??pygtk.require('2.0')??import pyatspi?except ImportError:??sys.exit(1)?except:??sys.exit(0)?sys.exit(0)

I hope this sheds some light on the problem.
Comment 15 Jean-Claude Gervais 2010-08-07 11:11:15 UTC
Same problem here emerging orca-2.30.2

configure step freezes at
checking for python module pyatspi...

x86 install, not using any overlays

I also face same problem w/ orca-2.30.2, the problem is fixed after remerge libbonobo.

That worked for me. Thanks for the tip.
